چکیده

The enigmatic geodynamic processes involved in the India-Asia collision shape our understanding of uplift and deformation Tibetan Plateau subsequent changes land-sea distribution pattern, monsoon-arid environments biotic evolution Central-Eastern Asia. However, current models dealing with history exhibit significant discrepancies how, when where exactly India Asia occurred. Recently, we proposed a new hypothesis that favored opening closure North Sea during late Cretaceous to Paleogene. Here present additional paleomagnetic data from red siliceous shales cherts Sangdanlin Formation, which were deposited on most distal continental margin Tethyan Himalaya terrane, i.e. southern Neo-Tethys Ocean, middle Paleocene. combination previously reported shows was at paleolatitude 14.1° ± 1.9°N interval 62.5–59.2 Ma refines maximum size about 2200 500 km. Combining model recently published Kohistan-Ladakh arc, conclude triple-stage process, an arc-continent followed by two-stage continent-continent collision. occurred ca. 64 between (Tethyan plus Greater Himalaya) Trans-Tethyan subduction zone ~8°N. initial took place 61 (plus accreted zone) Lhasa terranes ~14°N. final 53–47 Himalaya, diachronously suturing west east. scenario is agreement convergence rates, reflected presence three slab remnants below Tibet as documented seismic tomographic imaging. The Nature of the Banda Arc–Continent Collision in the Timor Region

Arc continent collision is one of the most fundamental tectonic processes for the formation of new land, and the preservation on land of fragments of oceanic lithosphere (ophiolites). However, the tectonic evolution of arc continent collision is commonly over-simplified in everything from introductory textbooks to complex tectonic models. Major unresolved issues include the response of the fore...

Greater India Basin hypothesis and a two-stage Cenozoic collision between India and Asia.

Cenozoic convergence between the Indian and Asian plates produced the archetypical continental collision zone comprising the Himalaya mountain belt and the Tibetan Plateau. How and where India-Asia convergence was accommodated after collision at or before 52 Ma remains a long-standing controversy. Since 52 Ma, the two plates have converged up to 3,600 ± 35 km, yet the upper crustal shortening d...

Magnetotelluric Studies of Active Continent–Continent Collisions

Continent–continent collisions are an important tectonic process and have played a fundamental role in the evolution of the modern continents. A combination of geological and geophysical data has provided new constraints on the structure and temporal evolution of these orogens. Magnetotelluric (MT) studies have been an important part of these studies since they can constrain the fluid content a...

Th~nnal history of Australian passive Inargin cover sequences accreted to Timor during Late Neogene arc-continent collision, Indonesia

Paleotemperature indicators and apatite fission track analysis of Australian continental margin cover sequeRces accreted to the active Banda arc-continent collision indicate little to no heating during rapid late Neogene uplift and exhumation. Thermal maturation patterns of vitrinite reflectance, conodont alteration and' illite crystallinity show that peak paleotemperatures (PPT) increase with ...
